RTV preparations (Room Temperature Vulcanizing). Mostly used with gaskets, e.g. gasket joints, or are brushed onto gaskets. Some preparations serve as replacements for gaskets. RTV preparations are fully visible when the components have been disassembled. Old RTV compound must be removed before the joint is installed and sealed again.

Anaerobic preparations. These preparations harden in the absence of air. The preparations are used when two solid components, such as castings, are fitted together without a gasket. They are also commonly used to seal and lock components such as plugs, stud threads, taps and oil pressure monitors etc. Hardened anaerobic compounds are glassy and the preparations are colored accordingly, to make visible.
